Hi people! Who knows which are the best places for going skiing close beside Munich? I am a beginner, so I would need to spend a couple of hours with instructor. How expensive all this fun this could be?

I think Spitzingsee has a ski school right on a small slope which is ideal for beginners. I think about 30 Euro gets you the rental of equipment and a day ski-pass. I can't remember how much the instruction costs, but it is cheap. Budget less than about 100Eur for two people being instructed for a couple of hours, with all equipment rental, ski-passes and travel from Munich.
As for sledging, it seems the temperature is increasing, so sledging days may be numbered. Who is up for hitting the sledge run at Wallberg this week... Friday would be a good day, but anyday when it is sunny would be ideal.

Good idea. I checked the weather forecast and it seems Wednesday has the best weather, with Thursday not bad and Friday experiencing a little snow. What do you think, maybe make it Wednesday or Thursday? Sorry for all those people who are unable to get the day off work, but weekdays are better for sledging as the weekends can see very long queues for both the cable car and the sledge rental.
Everyone is welcome and I would recommend taking a day off for this as it is great fun. It takes about 30/40 mins to sledge down the mountain and we tend to do 2 runs, with lunch in the restaurant at the top of the mountain between the 1st and 2nd run. As this may be the last run of the season, TalkMunich shall cover the costs for the first few people to contact me (just send me an email or personal message).

OK, this event is going ahead, as scheduled, tomorrow. We meet at 9:30am at Hauptbanhof at the BOB platform (see earlier posts for exact info).
If you are new to the forum and don't know how to recognise me or any of the others, then send me a mail or personal message and I will meet you earlier or give you more precise instructions.

A bit of short notice there. What about skiing instead some weekend? We rent out a few cars and head to the slopes.

I think because of the weather today, the sledge run is closed. However, I am sure it will open tomorrow as a sunny day is forecast.

Actually, not quite so sure the sledge run will open tomorrow. They are claiming there is an increased risk of off-piste avalanches. How this affects the sledge run I am not sure. Will ring them later today to see if it is likely to be open tomorrow.

Mickey rang up the Wallberg sledge rental place and he informed me that they think the sledge run may be closed tomorrow. At the very least they suspect it won't be open till early afternoon, if at all. We have been advised to ring back at 9am to see what the status is.
Spitzingsee has some nice slopes and is only a short distance from Wallberg; anyone fancy doing skiing instead if sledging is not on tomorrow?

Just heard on the radio that Spitzingsee has been blocked all day by an avalanche (the main road is covered). People are still trapped there and no-one can get in or out. It might be cleared by tomorrow morning though. You will need to check this is you plan to ski there tomorrow.

We are lucky, the rodelbahn (sledge run) is open. Full steam ahead, see you all in 30 mins.

Is sledging finished for this year? What about skiing?
I would be up for one last shot at the slopes if anyone is up for it?

If anyone else is willing to join Bigwig and I, assuming the run is still open, then I think we need to get it booked quick and a date finalised. I think winter is entering its dying phase, so time is running out. Let us know if you are available anytime in the next two weeks.
