The other trhead on Munich news in English made me realise I have no idea where I can buy British newspapers here in Munich on a Sunday.  I am sure I have seen them somewhere.  Does anyone know where I can get hold of The Times or The Observer on Sundays?

There's a newspaper place in Hauptbahnhof, I can't remember exactly where it is but I think it was near the main DB office. Also, there used to be a newspaper place in Ostbahnhof, but not sure if it is still around. It was next to the Kebab/Chicken place downstairs as you first came into Ostbahnhof from the street from Orlean Str.

Thank you DavidC.  I have the feeling a British Sunday Newspaper and a chicken place might be a nice combination on a Sunday afternoon.  :)

Your welcome ThunderRod, not sure if the prices have changed, but buying a Sunday Newspaper when I first arrived in Munich over 10 years ago was nearly double!!

The prices are a shame.  I do not get it why they are so expensive when many of these 'foreign' papers are actually printed here in Munich.  I often get the impression that expats are treated here in Germany as something to exploit.

There is a place near Marianplatz that sells most English papers. Head east out of Marianplatz and it's on the corner as you'd turn south to go to Virtulenmarkt.

Probably spelt all the place names wrong but hopefully you get the jist.

Two reasons prices are more:

Enconomy of scale: Fixed printing costs and over-heads need to be spread over a smaller number of units.

Distribution networks: In the UK they'll either have their own distribution network or be getting good rates on bulk deliveries. As above, small number of units means greater cost per unit.

The economy of scale may account for a few tens of cents increase, but not the ridiculous prices we see here. Expats are easy targets for exploitation and business owners here know this.  The expats want their home comforts and little things which they miss from their country of origin and this demand is what causes the prices to rise so high. 

Unless you specifically want or need the print edition, it's probably easier to go online.

The news will be more up-to-date, and even the subscription-based parts of some of the broadsheet websites will probably be good value compared to an overpriced hard copy in Munich.

But to read news online is not the same as to hold a printed newspaper in your hands. It is more convenient and enjoyable, or even traditional to read a newspaper. Every time I am at the Hauptbahnhof I go to the 'Internationale Presse' kiosk to buy myself some magazines and newspapers to read while I am on the train. 

I know another place that sales English-language newspapers. It is at the drugstore at Münchner Freiheit, across the road from McDonalds.

I think some traditional cafes like Victorian House at Frauenstr.14 might have British newspapers for its visitors. Another variant is to go the city library (Muenchener Stadtbibliothek), like one in Gasteig. You should not sign up to just go in and read some foreign newpapers.
