So there was my mother, walking peacefully along the footpath on the other side of the road when I noticed her and ran over to chat.  Just as I arrived beside her, some nutjob on a cheap bicycle ploughed into her from behind, missing me by inches.  If he had hit me, I would have been fine with it, but hitting my mother is inexcusable.  I offer a reward for his capture and will sell tickets to the viewing of his mutiliation.

I'd like to point out that despite what I may have said on another thread it wasn't me.

A strange way to confess, but I guess the identity issue is resolved now.  How could you run over his mother!  Shameless.
Anyway, we now need to think of a suitable punishment for you.  I was thinking of hanging you from a tree in English Garden and letting wild man-eating pigs nibble at your dangling feet... all of this happening with cute little children looking on and laughing, with their grandmothers throwing stale muffins at your head.  Actually, if you survive we could make it a yearly event.

My god Brandon, how could you do such a thing to a little old lady.
Shame, shame and more shame.

I don't know if it is such a bad thing.  Have you ever had to deal with the average old German person here... a lot of them deserve to be run over  Tongue

Cyclists in Munich keep to any rules, i had myself some bad experiences. They are even more dangerous for pedestrians than cars.

I know in recent months there has been talk about banning cyclists from English Garden.  With that in mind, I have created a poll to determine how much of a problem cyclists are in Munich.

You were lucky your mother was not sued for getting in his way.  I find it funny the way Germans are so law-abiding in certain ways and in others they act like total criminals.  For instance, I seen one guy drive his car through a red light coming from a minor to a major road.  He could have killed someone.  Was he arrested, not a chance.  Yet I have seen pedestrians being fined for walking across an empty road.  Go figure.

Make sure you are insured if you live here.  I do not think the Germans have a litigation culture, but I have heard horror stories when it comes to personal liability for something you have done wrong.  it pays to play on the safe side and get yourself covered.

Yes, to be on the safe side one should have in Germany liability insurance (Haftpflichtversicherung). Here is Wiki link for you

If you get hit and don't have insurance is a good trick is to pretend your concussed and no longer know who you are or whats happening. There's a reasonable chance that the cyclist, thinking he might have done some serious damage, will be eager to get away.

As for cycling, it was an article in around October/ November on the news last year about a 32 years old woman lawyer who was cycling with her 18 months naked child by freezing temperatures. She was stopped by the police and explained that her child did not want to dress up and he should has his freedoms and rights as any other human being.

Yeah, but as a parent she has a responsibility to do what is best for her child, not what the child wants. As an example, should he now be allowed to eat no vegetables and only sweets because he prefers sweets? Silly woman. Now I despise lawyers even more :-)
