Hi

I would very much like to move to Munich next year and am looking for some advice.

I’ve worked as a Market Research consultant for the last seven years and would like to continue in this field. However I am not sure what the best approach is for looking for a job.

I have looked through job search websites (monster, jobboerse.arbeitsagentur.de, etc.) but most of the jobs are very junior. In the UK more senior roles would go through recruitment consultants. Does anyone know if this is the case in Germany? If so could anyone suggest some good agents? If this isn’t the case what is the best approach – direct approaches to companies?

Any advice would be gratefully received. Would love to hear from anyone working in the industry.

Thanks

I know someone who struggled for a while to get a job in Market Research but perhaps he was not senior.  He was German though.  Do you speak German fluently?
Have you thought of starting up on your own?

Hi Moomin

Thanks for replying to my post.

I am half German so do speak the language reasonably well - but not really business German.

Do you know how you friend went about getting a job? Starting up on my own seems a bit ambitious in a new country (without contacts etc.)

Thanks

Kitty

Setting up on your own might not be as daunting as you may think.  I can help position you in a few networking groups of Munich business owners if you do decide to go down this route.
I guess success depends on how motivated you are and whether or not you have the drive, attitude and skills to see this through to the end.

I too know some marketing people so will ask around to see what the job market is like and how recruitment for experienced professionals is conducted here.  Good luck with your search.

I know that it is not easy to find a good job in market research. There are various fields of market research and it is preferably to have experience in the same sphere in which your future employer company works. Like if it is carbuilding, food or new media industry- you should have your speciality in market research.

You may want to try Xing, the professional network in Internet. I know people who found  new jobs through making personal contacts on Xing.
