I went out yesterday and thought, oh dear I need a new coat, it seems quite chilly.  Ok, perhaps it was a one-off.  But today it is freezing.  This will be my first autumn/winter in Munich, so my question is, can I expect the weather to be this cold and colder until next spring?

It does seem very cold today. Just went out to get some lunch, got to the end of the street and thought 'bugger this, must hae something in the cupboard'.

Last year I was only here from the end of October. During November it got very cold, staying below zero for a while. But after that the winter was reasonably mild. I think there is a fair degree of variance here, some winter's are mild and then some years there is thick deep snow for months.

It is actually very cold now. For the last 5 years September was relatively warm, so i think soon enough the weather should improve.

Great, thanks.
Another question then.  Where can I buy winter jackets?

Apparently, the last few days have been extremely cold, relative to the average temperature for this time of year.

There will soon be a shopping guide for TalkMunich where you can search for items of clothing etc and it will tell you where you can find them, with a link to the Munich Map detailing the location of the shop.

On my personal thermometer, this year the lowest temperature in the morning was minus 12 in the morning. Let's see if we can beat that.

Have to admit, this is one of the coldest winters I have experienced in Munich.  I wonder though why it started snowing as soon as the temperature started to rise... the last few weeks were very cold, yet no snow.  As soon as the temp rises, it started to snow today and was all slushy.

The weather over the last few days has been quite warm all of a sudden.  Which brings me to a topical point; when can we expect to have the weather forecast on TalkMunich?  I see the link along the top, but it does not give me the weather.

Having the weather forecast working here would be great.  I find it difficult to understand how the temperature is varying so much.  I mean do we have enough snow for sledging next week?

They say weather is unpredictable as a woman (or wise versa), the thing is to be able to enjoy it when you cannot change it.

Wise word Adamicus. I hear that the weather will change for the better this week - spring is apparently coming.
